A day to be thankful.

Today we started reading the Magic Tree House book:  Thanksgiving on Thursday by Mary Pope Osborne.
We made a bubble map about Thanksgiving, and talked about why we celebrate it.

Did you know that in 1621 the Pilgrims and Indians had a three day feast to celebrate the harvest.  And in 1863, President Lincoln made it so that the last Thursday of November we be a day of thanksgiving.

Our class started talking about things that we are thankful for and here is what they said:

Oh'  on our heads are our drum stick hats for our Thanksgiving Feast at school today.

 I am thankful for food.
I am so thankful because we have God and Jesus and we have food and friends and people care for us, and grandpas and grandmas and cats and dogs, and classmates and books and games and teachers.
I am thankful for my mom.
I am thankful for friendship and we can  be helpful to other people and we can be careful of other people.
I am thankful for all the people and my sticker color.  I am thankful for people that got invited to a sleep over.  And for my grandma and grandpa and for my friends and for my cats and my dog and my cousins and I hope that people aren't jealous and are not mean to me.
I am thankful for lemon pie and apple pie and turkeys.  I am thankful for Thanksgiving.  I am thankful for November.
I am thankful to have lots of friends with me.  I am also thankful to have a mom and a dad.  And I am thankful to have a teacher.
I am thankful for Thanksgiving.  And I am thankful for people.
I am thankful for the army, holidays, and for a family dinner to be with my family, and turkey.
I am thankful for getting with our families, cousins and my grandpa and grandma.
I am thankful for God, and the Army, and the seasons.
I am thankful for my mom and my dad.  To have food and blankets and stuffed animals.
I am thankful for Jack Sparrow.
I am thankful for having Tosh to make a paper airplane, and for helping my mom.

I am thankful for deer hunting.

I am thankful for seeing all of my loving first graders faces every morning, I am thankful that they are hard workers and are eager to learn.  I am thankful that I have the opportunity to be a part of their lives.  I am thankful that we are ALL  ROCK STARS!   ----Ms. Littler

Fire Safety

During fire safety week, some of the Griswold Firemen came to talk to us about fire safety.  We then got to ride on one of the Lewis firetrucks.  We learned a lot and had a great time!

Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday Bryce and Trista!!!!

We hope you both have a ROCK STAR BIRTHDAY!

This week is Fire Safety Week.

This week we have been learning about ways to be safe if there is a fire.  We have been reading books, drawing pictures, talking in small groups, and having whole class discussions.  We decided to write a fire safety rule on note cards and put them in the hall way so everyone could see what we have learned.
Then we practiced our "escape plans".  On Monday we had an all school fire drill.  Our class did a GREAT job!  They all followed the plan and were the quietest class out of all of them.  (At least I think they were).  They knew right where to go, to get in a nice straight line and to wait patiently until we got the all clear to return to our room.
Today we got to practice going our our escape window.  The best part the kids said was.........

The TEACHER GETTING STUCK TRYING TO GET OUT!

We are Batty about Bats!

Wednesday, Miss Lora came to talk to us about how cool bats are.  We learned that the smallest bat is the size of a jelly bean.  There is a bat called the bee bat, and that bats like dark places.

before Lora came we wrote on note cards what we thought we knew about bats.  We got into groups and shared what we knew and then we made a bat chart.  After Lora came we made a "what we learned" chart.  We wrote down something new that we didn't know before, or something that changed our minds about what we thought.  It was GREAT!  Before Miss Lora came 10 kiddos thought bats were birds, 7 kiddos thought bats were, well, bats.  After Miss Lora told us about bats all 17 said that bats are mammals NOT birds!  They don't have feathers, they have hair!
